City of Belfast this weekend
This weekend sees the City of Belfast we have some 28 entrants two sections and three days of brilliant chess. Please note there will be road works near the event. Details below. When travelling allow for delays - leave early.
The Belfast Delancey Mega-Finals
The largest Schools tournament in the UK. The UK Chess Challenge. Held the Belfast Mega-finals at Methodist College on Saturday 12th May. Who would qualify to play in the Giga-Finals? The sun shone - and we had great fun playing chess....
The City of Belfast an International field and 3 days of chess and beautiful weather
With two titled players from Germany and 4 players from Dublin in the beautiful surrounds of the NICS Pavillion a scene was set for a brilliant tournament. On the bank holiday of 26th, 27th, 28th May we had 3 days of 2 games a day at a wonderful slow pace.

On Sunday June 10th we had the final of this years Alan Burns Lacksidasicals. Afternoons of relaxing fun chess. The winner of the 2018 Alan Burns GrandPrix would be decided.

Ulster Players excel at the Delancey UK chess Challenge Giga-finals
Over the weekend of 14th, 15th July 2018 seven players representing Ulster excelled at the Delancey UK Giga-finals in Manchester.
Stephen Rush at the Irish Championships 2018 and Danny Roberts at the Irish Majors.
Stephen Rush played at the Irish Championships over the week starting 4th August to 12th. Danny Roberts played in the Irish Majors both getting good results.
Brendan Jamison joins World-renowned Saint Louis Chess Club
Our intrepid Tournament and League Controller - spent the Summer touring the USA where he won two tournaments and joined the fantastic Saint Louis Chess Club.
In the UCU Summer tournament we have reached week 16.
With only 4 tournament weeks left followed by a prize giving on Sept. 26th. How are the players standings? Who is in with a chance of winning.
New Ulster Champion Thomas Donaldson
The Ulster Championship was held over 25th-27th August at the brilliant location of the Europa Hotel. With 57 entries and 3 sections there were tough battles and exciting chess. Thomas Donaldson was crowned the new Ulster Champion for 2018.

The Ulster Chess Union holds its nineth Summer School
Within the lovely location of Ballynafiegh Bowling Club. Over the three days Weds 8th to Fri 10th August 2018. Fourteen youngsters met and enjoyed 3 focused days of chess.
Belfast holds one of 8 qualifiers for the UK Open Blitz 2018
On September 8th at Stormont Pavilion players gathered to play in the Belfast Qualifier for the UK Open Blitz 2018. The top two prizes are entry into the UK Open Blitz final.

Belfast Culture Night. Enjoy meeting potential new chess players. Play chess and enjoy the cafe experience. Share your enthusiasm for the game. At Caffe Nero, 19 Lombard St. or Costa Coffee, Victoria Centre, September 21st 3:30pm til late. This is part of the Belfast annual Culture Night with lots of exciting public events celebrating culture.

The UCU had two cafes this year. Costa Cafe at Victoria Square and our long term location of Caffe Nero at Lombard Street. Chess, good company in the surrounds of the brilliant atmosphere of Belfast Culture Night.

With the last round of the 2018 Summer Tournament having been played we can see the final positions of the players. Next week we have fun time base handicap tournament and the award ceremony.
