Belfast South Open Chess Tournament 2017-18
Belfast South Chess Club is ending its association with The Bankers Club after 4 years owing to the Club's closure on 22 December 2017. The occasion was marked last night with a presentation to the barman, John Ward, thanking him for satisfying players' thirsts over the past 4 years! This decision has left Belfast South Chess Club and Tournament homeless.
On a positive note, Queen's University Chess Club players have been supporting the Tournament and have offered to host the remaining 12 nights in the Black and White Hall of the Lanyon Building which has been accepted by Belfast South Chess Club. This will mean that the Tournament will be held on TUESDAY instead of Monday nights, commencing 9 January 2018. This is only a temporary move for the Tournament which will revert to Monday nights once new Belfast South Chess Club premises are secured for the 2018-19 season.
The Tournament is very open as there are still 12 nights left. New players can still join in the action and be eligible for prizes for £10 entry fee.
