The 3rd tournament in the Alan Burns Series
Enjoying lunch and an afternoon of chess - what could be better?
Twenty players of all abilities faced off.
Round one started shortly after 1:30pm. This was the top player Sergio's first appearance at the Alan Burns series of tournaments. Also with Queens club growing in size and becoming a significant club in the Ulster scene. It was good to see new players from Queens.

A suprise resut with Ian Kilpatirck beating Damien Cunningham. Whilst the rest of the big hitters continue adding to their points. Liam Ferris has a good result beating Richard Gould. Whilst Vincent Crean also does well against fellow Queens player Chris Roe.

Possibly a tournament defining game Ian Kilpatrick draws against Sergio Esteve Sanchez. Thereby allowing Brendan Jamison (Grandmaster Slayer) to lead the tournament. The young Daniil gets an excellent result against Mikhail Pavlov and Liam Ferris continues to do well drawing against Callum Ormerod.

The Big fight Brendan falls to the sword of Sergio. Who now jointly leads with Ian Kilpatrick who gets a good win against Robert Lavery. Damien Cunningham is coming up on the inside track.

With 6 people in the throw for the top. The draw gives the two top players what should be relatively straghtforward pairings. But Ram provides an upset and gains a draw against Sergio. Leaving the result in Ians hands - who beats Daniil to win the tournament. Other good results from Vincent Crean drawing against Ian Woodfield and Liam Ferris who had an excellent tournament drawing against Robert Lavery.
