City of Belfast 2013 report

The 2013 City of Belfast Championships were played at the Ballynafeigh Community Development Centre over the 18-19 May weekend.

There were two trophies being competed for by the 24 players - the Nemtzov Cup (for the top eight rated players) and the Henderson Cup. Top seed Stephen Scannell lost in the first round to Ian Woodfield, but then won four straight to share the overall lead with second seed Gareth Annesley going into the last round. These two played out a highly complicated middlegame with final victory in the game and the Nemtzov going to Scannell. This was Scannell's third win in the Nemtzov but when Karina Kruk beat her main rival Shane Keers in Round 6 she was winning the Henderson for the fourth year in a row.
