RVH July 2001 Handicap Report

The RVH Chess Club ran an unusual event on the evening of Tuesday 31 July. It was a five round handicap tournament, open to all. Games were 20 minutes long, but the time each player was allocated depended on their respective ratings.

The formula used was:
less than 100 grading points difference: 10 minutes v 10 minutes
between 101 and 200 points difference: 12 minutes v 8 minutes
between 201 and 300 points difference: 14 minutes v 6 minutes
over 300 grading points difference: 16 minutes v 4 minutes.

The winner of the tournament was Stephen Scannell with a clean sweep of 5 wins from his 5 games. There were a number of players tied on 4 points, with Stephen Morgan awarded second prize on tie-break. Third equal were Damien Lavery and Nicholas Pilkiewicz, with Tom Clarke fifth. Grading prizes went to Paul McLoughlin, Desmond Moreland and Louis Holmes and the Novice prize to P. Logan.
