Albert Long Collection
Albert Long was Secretary of the Ulster Chess Union from circa 1950 to 1970. He kept extensive formal records of his work and the results of UCU competitions during that period. His working notebooks, which contain an even greater amount of detail, have also been given to the UCU. These archives form the core of this collection. Added to them are records kept by his successors and other officials up to the end of the millennium, plus records of the Belfast and Strandtown clubs dating back into the 19th Century. It is intended that a significant amount of this historical material will be transcribed into this section of the UCU website.
The Time Traveller
The original series of articles by the Time Traveller appeared in David McAlister's web magazine "Ulster Chess History." They were the fruit of his researches into contemporaneous newspaper reports plus various Irish and Ulster archives and covered the period up to the early 1980s. Those articles will now be presented here at the official UCU website and David will add new articles as well.
Trophy winners, donors and dedications
The Ulster Chess Union endeavours to reward competitors appropriately with silver-ware and prize funds. Some of our trophies are now of considerable vintage, with the Silver King and Williamson Shield both over 100 years old. This section details the winners of our trophies, together with those who donated them or to whom they are dedicated.
