November 2024 NI FIDE Rating Report
We’re delighted to announce that FIDE Candidate Master Jacob Flynn (2161) is the current number 1 seed at this month’s Ulster Masters (15th to 17th Nov in Belfast), followed by Mandar Tahmankar (2094) as seed 2 and Gareth Annesley (1961) as seed 3. There are two sections, with 1700 as the split, with money prizes and GM Simul tickets up for grabs. We have space to fit a couple more players in before hitting max capacity. Remember to pay your entry fee before 7th November before it rises from £25 to £30 for all entrants (including for under 18s and students who are both £20 at early rate, rising to £30 after deadline).
The 1st November FIDE rating list covers Northern Ireland tournaments that were held over the past 5 weeks and were rated on 31 October 2024. Please note that Rounds 1-2 of the N.I. Gold Coast Team Classic will get rated with Round 3 at end of November.
11 year old Alwin Micheal has broken a new record, rising 130 rating points to 1824, winning the title of ‘Club Master’ at Bangor Chess Club (awarded to members breaking the 1800 barrier). Alwin joined Bangor in April 2024 and is on loan to Strand Chess Club for Division 1 league matches this season. Everyone is delighted to watch his talent grow from strength to strength.
