LJCC Belfast Qualifier was held at Methodist College Belfast on 5th Oct 2024

Young chess players gathered for a day of Chess. At the first of this years monthly UCU Childrens Chess tournaments. Today saw the younger players looking to qualifier for the Top UK tournament the London Junior Chess Championship.

Geoff Hindley and myself setup the 2 playing rooms. Geoff also posted the signs pointing to our location around the car-park. Players arrived and were registered. Until we had everyone in attendance we couldnt finalise our setup. Having 6 under 10s, we were going to have an all-play-all with the 6th round being manually drawn. We had possibly 7 or 8 under 12s so were going to try a swiss and when necessary do manual draws. How-ever a couple of the Under12s were absent. So after the first round I turned the tournament into an all-play-all. It was decided that with the under10/12 we would run each round after the previous round had finished and not keep to the timetable - allowing for a possible early finish. The parents agreed that this was a good idea. We had the Under 18s in the second room. Allowing for them to keep to the timetable for the day as they would play the full time control - 30 minutes each.
