Belfast Chess Social host Rapid Tournament and FIRST EVER In-Person Blitz Tournament Played on Computers

Belfast Chess Social hosted two tournaments on Sunday, November 3rd, at Reboot Cafe in the Queen's Quarter area of the city. Article and Photos by Peter McGoran.

The tournaments included BCS' first ever in-person Blitz Tournament played on computers. In this highly original setting for a chess tournament, 9 competitors battled it out in Reboot's state-of-the-art computer suite, playing a Swiss-style tournament - via Chess.com - with time formats of 3 minutes + 2 second increments.

17-year-old Finn Cummins was the victor of this tournament, buoyed by some rapidfire play and an incredible 11-game win streak in the middle part of the tournament. Finn, who travelled up from Dublin for the event, netted a cash prize of £30.
