Its with fondness we remember William McGrattan who passed just over a year ago.
When I came from across the water I was keen to join a chess club. Luckily for me I played William McGrattan and did quite well. He decided to put me in his Bangor Team as board 5 ( I was unrated ) and I played every game and did well. So I stuck to chess and enjoyed the thursday evenings at Bangor. With the Banter of William and Sam Lynn and Tony Beckett - you were guaranteed a laugh sometime in the evening when they would be a loud exclaimation followed by some brilliant banter. William like many of us played Sam Lynn every week at his house and they were good friends. William was a person who touched many lives and we all are thankful for knowing him and enjoying his company. If you have time find Richard Proctor and ask him to give you one of his stories about William - you'll realise he was a wonderful, distinct character, one of a kind. Thank you William for being you and sharing your time with us.
