Players are not permitted to turn up on the night without pre-registering as we must know the number of sets and clocks to bring to the venue (+ we need to get all player details entered into the software programme in advance).

FIDE rules will apply. Phones must be switched off (including any spectators/chess parents). Any phone that makes a noise will lead to an automatic loss for the offending player, including loss of rating points. No food allowed in the playing hall but drinks at tables permitted.

Free entry for 2nd, 3rd or 4th player from the same family

Full refunds will be issued if players cancel with at least 24 hours notice before the start of Round 1, i.e. before 7:30pm on Tuesday 24 September.

Remember, as per FIDE tournament requirements, each player should be a paid-up member of their National Federation, which in our case is the Irish Chess Union [ICU]. All FIDE rated events in Northern Ireland are run through the ICU and therefore membership is compulsory if you are taking part in FIDE rated competitions.

To enter this FIDE rapid in Downpatrick, firstly, please check that you have renewed your Irish Chess Union (ICU) membership for this current season (1 Sept 2024 to 31 August 2025). New U18s can join for €10. Students/unemployed/pensioners are €20. Full adult rate is €35. www.icu.ie/shop

Please send a screen-shot or email receipt of your ICU member status to FIDE National Arbiter Brendan Jamison at fidechessni@gmail.com when applying to play in this tournament. You will then be added to our local inventory of paid-up ICU members living in Northern Ireland (therefore you won’t be required to verify your ICU status again for the rest of this current season).

Secondly, you will be added to the tournament entry list after your £10 tournament entry fee has been received. It can be sent by Revolut, PayPal, bank transfer or paid in cash at a prior event.

Members of Downpatrick Chess Club (and players that are part of the Downpatrick league team) are entitled to 50% discount, so entry fee is £5.
