A brilliant Evening of Social Chess - Belfast Culture Night
The evening was buzzing with atmosphere. Every 30mins we had live wrestling. There was live music around the corner. Most important of all there was a stream of smiling friendly faces enjoying the evening of culture.
To sit outside a cafe with a warm cup of coffee, chatting about books, films, family with strangers - people who you felt you would like to know more about - and playing the beautiful game - Chess - this was heaven.
Through the evening I played a man from Derbyshire on holiday visiting the Giants Causeway. Another player I learned an ancedote: "Even a blind pig finds an acorn once and a while?". A fantastic teacher from Liecester who made me realise the challenges facing children and teachers and why we should value both so highly
Fliers with five challenging/elegent chess problems and the UCU contact details were handed out.
Towards the end of the evening a large chess set was placed on the floor and the Giants of Belfast chess played - Steve Scannell, John Cairns, Steve Morgan....
